Hans-Joachim Watzke confident Borussia Dortmund will be successful with Edin Terzic and Sebastian Kehl at the helm
Hans-Joachim Watzke is confident that Borussia Dortmund will achieve success with Edin Terzic and Sebastian Kehl in charge of the team.
It has been a fairly underwhelming season so far for Borussia Dortmund, who find themselves in sixth place in the Bundesliga standings heading into the winter break. After a summer of complete overhaul both on the pitch and in the dugout, the Black and Yellows have not been able to deliver the results they would have liked.
Edin Terzic was appointed as Borussia Dortmund’s permanent head coach as part of the rebuild. While Sebastian Kehl replaced Michael Zorc as sporting director after the latter made the decision to retire. And BVB CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke has full faith in the duo’s ability to lead the team to success in the coming years.
During Borussia Dortmund’s annual general meeting on Sunday, Watzke said (via Ruhr Nachrichten):
"“We had an upheaval in the team and the sporting management. We made the decision to go the Dortmund way. We have a lot of confidence in Sebastian Kehl and Edin Terzic. Both have dedicated themselves to this club with all their might. That will have a positive impact in the end.”“We are 100 percent convinced of this solution and we will be successful with it. We need people who are dedicated to BVB lock, stock and barrel.”"
Terzic has come under a bit of criticism from supporters after the team’s disappointing results in recent weeks. While Kehl’s signings have struggled to make the desired impact despite great optimism following their arrivals in the summer.
Borussia Dortmund will have their work cut out in the second half of the season as they look to climb back up the standings. But Hans-Joachim Watzke is confident that BVB will finish in the top four and qualify for next season’s UEFA Champions League. The 63 year old also believes that they have a fairly decent chance of overcoming the challenge of Chelsea in their Champions League round of 16 tie.
