Borussia Dortmund defender Niklas Süle is ready to fill in at right-back for Germany at the 2022 FIFA World Cup if the need arises.

Niklas Süle showed in the final few weeks of the hinrunde that he is more than capable of playing at right-back. Following injuries to Thomas Meunier, Marius Wolf, and Mateu Morey, the former Bayern Munich defender was asked to fill in on the right by Borussia Dortmund head coach Edin Terzic.

Süle did a fairly solid job for the most part, both defensively and going forward. His best performance came against VfB Stuttgart, when he managed to get a goal and an assist in the 5-0 win. The defender is part of the Germany squad for the 2022 FIFA World Cup, where he may be asked to fill in at right-back once again.

Speaking at a press conference on Monday, Süle reiterated that he is ready to play at right-back for Germany at the World Cup if Hansi Flick wants him to do so.

"“I showed at Borussia Dortmund that I can be an option at right-back. Hansi has to decide where he sees me adding the greatest value. He knows that I’m best as a centre-back. But if I add the most value as a right-back, then I’ll be happy to do that.”"

Niklas Süle was also asked whether there is a “Bayern bonus” in the Germany squad. There are seven players from Bayern Munich in Germany’s 26-man World Cup squad, but the 27 year old does not think that playing for the defending Bundesliga champions makes players more likely to get picked.

"“I don’t think there’s a Bayern bonus, that you’re more likely to be called up. Every player who is here has performed well at the club level. We are a great footballing country with many players who have the ambition to be at a World Cup. There are many who are going to be disappointed. The Bayern players perform well week after week, so they also have the right to be here.”"

After Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund have the most players in Germany’s squad for the FIFA World Cup with five.
