Sebastian Kehl has said that Borussia Dortmund will hold talks with Marco Reus soon with his current contract set to expire at the end of the season.

Marco Reus was asked about his Borussia Dortmund future on Sunday, and he reiterated his desire to stay at the club beyond the end of the season. Sebastian Kehl has now commented on the club captain’s future, and has confirmed that they will hold talks over a new contract in the near future.

In an interview with BILD, the Borussia Dortmund sporting director said:

"“Our appreciation for Marco is undoubtedly very high. Of late, the focus has been 100 percent on his injury and his desire to be fit for the World Cup. Unfortunately, that didn’t work out. But nothing has changed in the general plan.”“We will sit down together as planned and calmly talk about the future in a very trusting manner. As always, however, we will then talk to each other and not about each other in the media.”"

It has been widely reported that Borussia Dortmund are planning to hold talks with Reus over a new contract in spring. But chances are very high that he will be offered a new one year contract. The 33 year old said earlier this year that he wants to stay with the Black and Yellows until the end of his playing career.

Marco Reus joined Borussia Dortmund from Borussia Mönchengladbach in 2012 and has been ever present for the club since then. He has made a total of 368 appearances for BVB, and has 156 goals and 118 assists to his name.

The attacking midfielder made an impressive start to this season as well, but he suffered an ankle injury in September and was forced to miss the 2022 FIFA World Cup as a result. After the disappointment of missing the World Cup, Reus is now targeting a return to training in January. Borussia Dortmund’s next Bundesliga game is against FC Augsburg on January 22.
