Germany will be aiming to open their World Cup account as they go up against Spain in a blockbuster Group E clash on Sunday evening.

A massive must-win game awaits Germany on Sunday as they take on Spain. After falling to a shock defeat to Japan in their group stage opener, Hansi Flick’s side cannot afford any more slip ups if they want to make it through to the knockout rounds. Standing in their way will be the red-hot Spain, who go into Sunday’s game on the back of a stunning 7-0 win over Costa Rica.

After being humbled by Japan in their first game, Germany will be eager to put in a much improved performance against Spain. But defeat on Sunday would mean a second straight group stage exit for them at the World Cup.

Hansi Flick will likely make a couple of changes to his starting XI, with Thilo Kehrer expected to come in at right-back. He could replace Nico Schlotterbeck, who had a disappointing evening against Japan. Leroy Sané could be an option again after missing the Japan game due to a knee injury.

Spain do not have any injury concerns ahead of the game, and head coach Luis Enrique is unlikely to make too many changes to the team that dismantled Costa Rica with such ease.

Five Borussia Dortmund players are in the Germany squad, and we could see Niklas Süle in the starting XI on Sunday.
