Donyell Malen was on target once again but Borussia Dortmund suffered a last-gasp 2-1 defeat to the Vietnam national team in the final game of their 2022 Asia Tour.
Borussia Dortmund rounded off their three-game tour of Asia on Wednesday evening by suffering a 2-1 defeat to the Vietnam national team in front of more than 30,000 fans at the Mỹ Đình National Stadium in Hanoi. Donyell Malen was on target once again for the Black and Yellows, continuing his excellent run of form.
Looking to build on their wins over the Lion City Sailors and Johor Darul Ta’zim, Borussia Dortmund made a strong start to their mid-season firendly against the Vietnam national team.
Malen came close to scoring on a couple of occasions early on. And it only took him 13 minutes to find the back of the net for the third game running in BVB’s 2022 Asia Tour. The Dutch forward found the back of the net with a precise second-time finish after being set up by Felix Passlack.
Even though Borussia Dortmund created a host of big chances in the first half, it was Vietnam who scored the next goal. Nguyễn Tiến Linh found the back of the net on the rebound after goalkeeper Alexander Meyer had done well to keep out the initial effort.
Marcel Lotka came on to replace Meyer at half-time and made a couple of outstanding saves in the second half. But Vietnam were awarded a penalty late on. And after a slight delay, Phạm Tuấn Hải stepped up to score from the spot and secure the win for his side.
Vietnam won the game 2-1 but Edin Terzic will be pleased with the workout his players were able to get. A number of players from the U-23s and U-19s teams also got the opportunity to impress over the course of the Asia Tour.
The Borussia Dortmund players will now head back home before traveling to Romania to take on Rapid Bucharest and Fiorentina in the Christmas Cup on Saturday, December 10.
