There was heartbreak for Borussia Dortmund duo Jude Bellingham and Raphael Guerreiro on Saturday, as England and Portugal were eliminated from the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

A resilient performance from Jude Bellingham wasn’t enough as England fell short against France in the quarterfinals of the 2022 FIFA World Cup on Saturday evening. The Three Lions came from behind to equalise through Harry Kane after Aurélien Tchouaméni had given France the lead. But Olivier Giroud’s 78th minute header helped the defending champions seal their place in the semi-finals.

England had a golden chance to equalise in the 84th minute as they were awarded a penalty. But Harry Kane fired his spot-kick over the bar and Gareth Southgate’s side were eliminated from the World Cup.

Jude Bellingham was one of England’s top performers in the second half, and caused France all sorts of problems with his surging runs from midfield. He also forced a great save from Hugo Lloris with an excellent first-time strike from the edge of the box.

Portugal were also eliminated from the FIFA World Cup on Saturday as they suffered a 1-0 defeat to Morocco.

Borussia Dortmund left-back Raphael Guerreiro started for Portugal but was substituted in the second half as the Euro 2016 winners searched for an equaliser. But they weren’t able to find their way back into the game, and Youssef En-Nesyri’s first-half goal proved to be the winner.

The win helped Morocco make history as they became the first ever African team to qualify for the semi-finals of the FIFA World Cup. Walid Regragui’s side have enjoyed a stunning run in Qatar and have already eliminated Belgium, Spain and Portugal. And now a clash against France awaits them in the last four.
