Ramy Bensebaini’s defensive numbers in comparison to Raphaël Guerreiro

Ramy Bensebaini does, however, excel in the defensive end of his game quite resoundingly when compared to Raphaël Guerreiro. The Algerian international finds himself above the 90th percentile in terms of blocks, clearances and aerial duels won when compared to other players in his position, putting in 1.65 blocks, 4.1 clearances and winning 2.37 aerial duels per game.

Comparing this to Guerreiro, his respective numbers (0.77 blocks, 0.8 clearances and 0.31 aerial duels won) are far less imposing and in a way highlight the new direction Borussia Dortmund may be going in when it comes to their defensive structure.

Bensebaini’s defensive involvement for his club is indicative of the type of player Borussia Dortmund need in defense going forward, but in focusing on this they will unfortunately be losing some of their creativity going forward, as Bensebaini may not be able to offer the same level of flair and technical ability. Bensebaini has however shown that he does know where the back of the net is which will be useful weapon to have.

Overall, Borussia Dortmund seem on the lookout for a very different type of player to the one they have in Guerreiro. It will be rather unfortunate to see the left-back leave after so many years of service and memorable moments, but if his departure does come to fruition we can only thank him for the memories and wish him the best in the future.
