Borussia Dortmund are said to be interested in signing highly rated Ajax goalkeeper Charlie Setford, who will be out of contract in the summer.

Charlie Setford has made plenty of waves for AFC Ajax over the last 12 months. And Borussia Dortmund are said to be monitoring his progress with a view to a potential move in the summer. The Daily Mail claims that several other European clubs are also keeping tabs on the talented goalkeeper, including Tottenham Hotspur, AS Roma, and Everton.

Setford joined Ajax at the age of seven and has been with the club ever since. Having risen through the club’s youth ranks, the goalkeeper was included in the Dutch giants’ first-team squad last season. He also made history last year, as he became the youngest goalkeeper to ever play for Jong Ajax (the club’s youth team).

The 18 year old also won the Ajax Talent of the Future award last season, following in the footsteps of the likes of Wesley Sneijder and Christian Eriksen.

Borussia Dortmund are well stocked in the goalkeeping department at the moment, with the highly rated Gregor Kobel and Marcel Lotka both in their ranks. While Marian Kirsch has also impressed for the BVB U-19s this season. But the BVB scouts are always on the lookout for talented young players, and Setford certainly has the potential to develop into a top goalkeeper.

Charlie Setford’s contract with Ajax is set to expire at the end of the season. So it will be interesting to see if the Black and Yellows decide to pursue a move for him in the coming months.
