Youssoufa Moukoko brands media speculation about his future as lies

Youssoufa Moukoko has issued a response to reports claiming that his wage demands have led to the stalling of contract extension talks with Borussia Dortmund.

Youssoufa Moukoko’s contract is set to expire at the end of this season and his future at Borussia Dortmund remains uncertain. With interest from the likes of Chelsea, FC Barcelona, Liverpool, Manchester United, and several other top European clubs growing stronger, the BVB bosses are seeking to extend his contract as soon as possible.

BILD claimed earlier this week that contract extension talks between the two parties have stalled, with Moukoko’s entourage turning down BVB’s offer (to triple his wages) and instead demanding an annual salary of 7 million euros plus bonuses.

With all the speculation and reports surrounding the situation, the striker took to Instagram to voice his opinion. He said:

"“Please do not believe everything you read in the newspapers! I know that it’s all part of the football business now, but even though I’m still young, I won’t be pressured into making a decision about my future. I will never accept such a lie about me.”“My full focus is on the second half of the season and it’s all about Borussia Dortmund. No player is bigger than the club, I am not and will never be bigger than the club and in the end I am just a small part of it.”"

At the start of the season, Borussia Dortmund sought to find a solution for their striker problem after Sebastien Haller was diagnosed with a testicular tumour. Edin Terzic relied on Anthony Modeste and Youssoufa Moukoko to be the team’s goal threat and, so far this season, the latter has established himself as the first-choice striker. The Germany international, who recently turned 18, is BVB’s top scorer in the Bundesliga this season with six goals to his name.

Should he be given ample playing time and trust, Moukoko could develop into a top quality striker at BVB. Currently, the decision to stay or leave Borussia Dortmund lies in his hands. Until a decision is made, speculation about his future will continue.
