Former Bayern Munich captain Philipp Lahm believes that Jude Bellingham was the standout performer in the Bundesliga this year.
It has been a stellar 2022 for Jude Bellingham, who has established himself as an important player for both club and country. The 19 year old was named Borussia Dortmund’s third captain before the start of the current season. And he was also the standout performer for England at the recently concluded FIFA World Cup.
Philipp Lahm has now named Bellingham as the Bundesliga’s player of the year for 2022. In an interview with the Bundesliga, the former Bayern Munich defender said:
"“I think, if there is one to choose, I’d have to say Jude Bellingham from Borussia Dortmund, who has developed very well so far. He is a crucial player at BVB.”"
Bellingham has gone from strength to strength in recent months, and is enjoying a stellar season with Borussia Dortmund. He is the Black and Yellows’ top goalscorer this season, having found the back of the net nine times in 22 appearances across all competitions. He also finished second in the rankings for the 2022 Golden Boy award, and fourth in the Kopa Trophy race.
The highly rated midfielder joined Borussia Dortmund from hometown club Birmingham City in 2020. He has made a total of 112 appearances so far for BVB, scoring 19 goals and assisting a further 21.
Jude Bellingham’s performances for Borussia Dortmund have seen him attract the interest of some of the world’s biggest clubs. The likes of Real Madrid, Manchester City and Liverpool are all said to be in the race for his signature. And the BVB bosses will face a big fight to keep him at the club beyond the end of the season.
