Borussia Dortmund are allegedly interested in Spezia and Poland defender Jakub Kiwior, who made his World Cup debut for the Polish National team in Qatar.

Multiple reports have suggested that Borussia Dortmund may be in for Jakub Kiwior, with the player’s defensive versatility as the main draw to his game. Kiwior is used to playing as a central defender in a back three for Spezia, but has also shown his ability to play across the back-line and even as a defensive midfielder.

The 22 year old has impressed at Spezia, showcasing a retinue of traits that make him a strong defender; imperious tackling and the ability to win the ball back from the opposition with precision.

The initial report regarding BVB’s interest was noted by Corriere dello Sport, with the reported fee the Italian side would be looking for being listed as closer to 20 million euros. The fee itself seems like it would be a rather steep sum for Dortmund to pay for the 22 year old, who is valued at 8 million euros per Transfermarkt.

As we know, winter transfers are often far more expensive than summer transfers, which could play a role in the eventual price should the player make a move away from Spezia in the coming months. It is still unclear just how concrete any sort of interest from Die Schwarzgelben is.

While Kiwior would be a creative addition to the side, he does not fit the mold of a player that Dortmund are desperate to bring in, at least in terms of the personnel that the club have available and the way the club has seemingly intended to line up.

Jakub Kiwior’s addition could signal a change in the direction BVB want to take their defensive game (perhaps in terms of a change in formation) but that remains to be seen. The validity of Dortmund’s interest is also not assured as the club have very rarely done big business during the winter transfer market
