There was renewed optimism for Borussia Dortmund supporters as the club kicked off the 2022-23 Bundesliga campaign against a presumed Meisterschale dark horse in Bayer Leverkusen. Though the following weeks would reveal a very different trajectory for the latter, the former would find itself in an all-too-familiar position.

Agonizingly inconsistent and showing signs of both progression and decline with seemingly every other game.

However, there were players who proved vital to the success of Edin Terzic’s squad and put forth both encouraging and dynamic displays. While others did little more than highlight the need for Sebastian Kehl to make moves in the transfer market.
