Youssoufa Moukoko

Contract disputes aside, it is undeniable that the highly anticipated breakout season has officially taken place for Youssoufa Moukoko. Those who witnessed the technical quality and ruthless finishing years ago knew that this season would come soon enough. The young striker has finally been given his chance for minutes and it’s paid off in a huge way. With Sebastien Haller sidelined, the club was suddenly beyond thin in terms of depth up front going into the season.

Moukoko has taken full advantage of this opportunity and hasn’t looked back. Analytics don’t always tell you the whole story, but in this case, they tell you what you need to know in order to get an idea of his productivity. Demonstrating a relentless hunger for goals, the 18-year-old is boasting an open-play XG that is higher than Jamal Musiala, Sadio Mane, Christopher Nkunku, and Randal Kolo-Muani.

It remains to be seen whether or not the club will ultimately be able to hold onto its latest prodigy and it is a situation that supporters hope to be able to avoid regretting in years to come. In the short term, he’s already earned his call-up to the senior squad at the national team level and looks to be primed for heavy involvement in Germany’s next shot at international redemption on home soil in 2024.
