Lucien Favre sacked by OGC Nice after chaotic six month spell
Former Borussia Dortmund head coach Lucien Favre has parted ways with OGC Nice just six months after joining the French club.
Lucien Favre’s chaotic second spell in charge of OGC Nice has come to an abrupt end, as the French club have decided to sack the 65 year old. The decision to part ways with the former Borussia Dortmund head coach comes on the back of OGC Nice’s shock defeat to third division side Le Puy-en-Velay in the Coupe de France.
Favre only made his return to Nice in the summer, four years after leaving the club to join Borussia Dortmund. But his second spell with Les Aiglons was marred by chaos off the pitch and haphazard squad planning.
The OGC Nice bosses signed a number of players in the summer who were not suited to Favre’s style of play. And the lack of cohesion in the team was evident right from the start of the season.
Despite his discontent with the quality of the squad, Favre led Nice to the round of 16 of the UEFA Europa Conference League. But his future with the club had been in doubt since September. Now the French side have decided to part ways with the Swiss trainer.
It remains to be seen what the future now holds for Lucien Favre, who turned down a return to Borussia Mönchengladbach in the summer before agreeing to join OGC Nice. Gladbach sporting director Roland Virkus said in May that Favre does not want to coach in the Bundesliga anymore.
