Sebastien Haller scored three goals in just seven minutes as Borussia Dortmund cruised past FC Basel in their final friendly match ahead of the second half of the season.
Sebastien Haller found the back of the net for the first time in a Borussia Dortmund shirt as he led his side to a comprehensive 6-0 win in their mid-season friendly match against FC Basel on Friday. Marco Reus, Donyell Malen and Jude Bellingham gave the Black and Yellows a three goal lead in the first half of this 120 minute match, before Haller came off the bench and scored three quick-fire goals.
Haller was only making his second appearance in a Borussia Dortmund shirt on Friday. The Ivory Coast international missed the first half of the season after being diagnosed with testicular cancer during pre-season. He made his return to training earlier this month and has been ramping up preparations for his comeback.
Haller came off the bench for Borussia Dortmund in the 61st minute of their friendly match against FC Basel. And he found the back of the net 20 minutes later from the penalty spot. The 28 year old then turned home Julian Brandt’s low cross into the back of the net in the 86th minute, before completing his hat-trick with a stunning back-heel finish from a corner just two minutes later.
The performance and goals will no doubt give Sebastien Haller plenty of confidence as he gets ready to make his first competitive appearance of the season.
Borussia Dortmund will play their first Bundesliga game of 2023 next weekend as they go up against FC Augsburg. And chances are that we could see Haller make his competitive debut for the club in that game.
