Offensive Facilitator

At the age of 33, Marco Reus still has the ability to be a major threat to opposition defences when going forward. His presence in and around the final third enables the team to be creative and dynamic. He leads from the front, is adept at set pieces, and off-the-ball runs which creates space and overloads. His style of play also helps his teammates shine.

Borussia Dortmund have tried to find solutions to Marco Reus’ occasional absence through injuries in the past by bringing in a number of creative players to act as offensive facilitators.

Players like Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Ousmane Dembele, Julian Brandt and Gio Reyna have all been used in Reus’ position over the years. Although they are all outstanding players with immense quality, the team always feels like it is missing its talisman when Reus is unavailable.

When Marco Reus is fit, Borussia Dortmund are able to match any team when it comes to creating chances and making things happen. He has produced excellent performances against some of Europe’s top sides and can continue to push the team to new heights as a veteran in the team for years to come.
