Report: Borussia Dortmund interested in signing AS Roma star Nicolò Zaniolo
Borussia Dortmund are said to be in the race to sign Nicolò Zaniolo, who is increasingly likely to leave AS Roma either this month or in the summer.
Multiple reports in Italy have claimed that AS Roma are looking to sell Nicolò Zaniolo this month after failing to reach an agreement over a contract extension with the forward. According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, a number of clubs are interested in signing the Italian international. And Borussia Dortmund have already made initial contact and asked for information on the player’s situation.
The newspaper adds that Zaniolo’s preference would be to play in the English Premier League, with the likes of Tottenham Hotspur, Arsenal, Newcastle United, and West Ham United also in the race for his signature.
AS Roma reportedly want a transfer fee in the region of 35-40 million euros for Zaniolo, who has less than 18 months left on his current contract. The Italian side’s asking price would likely make the 23 year old too expensive for Borussia Dortmund, who are not looking to spend too much money this month.
Nicolò Zaniolo is considered to be one of the most exciting young players in Italy, but has been forced to deal with two serious injuries so far in his career.
Zaniolo joined AS Roma in 2018 and has made a total of 128 appearances across all competitions for the club, scoring 24 goals and assisting a further 18. He is also known for his versatility, and is capable of playing both through the middle as an attacking midfielder and also out wide.
