Sebastien Haller: The reception from Borussia Dortmund supporters was incredible
Sebastien Haller was given a rousing reception from the Borussia Dortmund supporters as he made an emotional return to competitive football on Sunday.
Borussia Dortmund claimed a dramatic 4-3 win against FC Augsburg in their first Bundesliga game of 2023. But the most special moment of the game came in the 61st minute, when Sebastien Haller came on to make his long-awaited competitive debut for the Black and Yellows.
The Ivory Coast international was greeted with the loudest cheers of the afternoon as he came on to replace Youssoufa Moukoko. Just six months after being diagnosed with testicular cancer, Haller made his return to the pitch in what was a truly special moment for everyone at Borussia Dortmund.
Sebastien Haller had to undergo two surgeries and chemotherapy treatment. But he worked incredibly hard to get back to full fitness and make his return to action. And all the hard work paid off on Sunday as he made his return to competitive action and was applauded onto the pitch by the BVB supporters.
After the game, he voiced his appreciation for the Borussia Dortmund supporters. The 28 year old said that the reception he received at the Signal Iduna Park was incredible and unforgettable.
"“I had goosebumps, the reception was incredible and unforgettable,” Haller told DAZN. “I’m really happy to have taken my first steps on the pitch. It was great. I think everyone enjoyed the moment.”"

Haller showed a few great glimpses of his quality over the course of his 30 minute cameo. With his competitive debut for Borussia Dortmund now in the books, the striker is determined to continue to build on the progress he has made so far and help the team as much as he can in the second half of the season.
