The final fixture of Matchday 18 in the Bundesliga will see Borussia Dortmund travel to a resurgent Bayer Leverkusen for what will be a highly revealing game for both clubs.

While both teams will head into the tie on the back of respective league wins, the manner in which they were achieved varies greatly. Defensive struggles continue to permeate throughout the Borussia Dortmund backline and additional media pressure piles on more pressure with every passing week. Against Mainz, Edin Terzic’s men were once again bailed out of yet another setback by the brilliance of Gio Reyna in stoppage time.

Though they remain a work in progress, Xabi Alonso’s Bayer Leverkusen are showing signs of further improvement under the Spaniard’s leadership and have rewritten this season’s narrative. A mercurial attack that’s fully loaded with player profiles geared towards counter-attacking efficiency is hardly the opposition that aids BVB’s efforts to keep clean sheets.

However, struggles also persist in Bavaria to the extent that they keep the door to the Meisterschale cracked open just enough for those in black and yellow to dare to dream.

Before those lofty ambitions can be seriously entertained, there must be a statement made on Sunday evening. There are specific areas, on both sides of the ball, in which the squad absolutely has to improve in order to return home with a crucial away win. With that being said, here are three keys to a potential Borussia Dortmund victory this weekend.
