Nico Schulz set for Borussia Dortmund stay after failing to secure deadline day transfer
Nico Schulz will not be leaving Borussia Dortmund this month after failing to secure a move away from the club on transfer deadline day.
It was reported earlier this week that Italian side Atalanta are interested in signing Nico Schulz, who is free to leave Borussia Dortmund. But according to Sky Sport, the Black and Yellows have not received any concrete offers for the left-back today.
While Ruhr Nachrichten claim that negotiations with a club interested in signing Schulz are proving to be very difficult. So now it appears that he will be staying at Borussia Dortmund, at least until the end of the season.
Schulz has not featured in a competitive game for Borussia Dortmund since May. He was told before the start of the season that he is surplus to requirements and free to leave the club. The BVB bosses have been trying to part ways with the 29 year old for more than 12 months now. But they have not been able to find a solution yet.
Nico Schulz still has 18 months left on his current contract with Borussia Dortmund. He has made 61 appearances across all competitions since joining the club from TSG Hoffenheim in 2019.
Schulz’s agent Roger Wittmann told Sky Sport earlier on Tuesday that it is possible the former Germany international could leave Borussia Dortmund on transfer deadline day. But now it remains to be seen what the future holds for him. One thing is for sure, Schulz is highly unlikely to ever play for Borussia Dortmund again.
