The January transfer window is over and a number of crunch games await Borussia Dortmund in February in all three competitions.
Borussia Dortmund have six games coming up across three competitions in February, and the month could prove to be pivotal to their hopes of making this season a successful one. The Black and Yellows go into this month on the back of three straight wins. But tougher challenges lie ahead in February, and Edin Terzic’s side will need to keep their foot on the gas to ensure that they can build on the platform that they have set for themselves.
Borussia Dortmund will begin February with a home game against SC Freiburg in the Bundesliga. The two teams are level on points going into the game, and this contest should be a captivating one. Christian Streich’s side are enjoying another impressive season and came very close to getting the three points in the reverse fixture. So BVB certainly cannot afford to take this game lightly.
The focus will then turn to the DFB-Pokal round of 16, with Borussia Dortmund making the short trip to VfL Bochum next week. BVB will be eager to make light work of their local rivals and secure their place in the quarterfinals. But anything can happen in the DFB-Pokal, and Bochum will no doubt be determined to pull off an upset.
Borussia Dortmund will then travel to the Weserstadion to take on Werder Bremen. The reverse fixture is a memory that will haunt BVB supporters for years to come. And Bremen will no doubt look to take inspiration from that game to deliver another blow to Dortmund’s hopes of winning the Bundesliga title.
This is exactly the type of game Borussia Dortmund usually struggle in. But they will need to get the three points if they want to keep their title charge going strong.
Borussia Dortmund’s biggest game of the month will arguably come on February 15, when they host Chelsea in the first leg of their Champions League round of 16 tie.
This should be an intriguing match-up between two quality sides. Although Chelsea will be the favourites following their recent spending spree. And winning the first leg at the Westfalenstadion will be crucial to BVB’s hopes of making it to the Champions League quarterfinals.
Borussia Dortmund will then host the struggling Hertha Berlin in the Bundesliga, before ending the month away to Hoffenheim. There will be another reunion with Thomas Delaney, who joined Hoffenheim on loan from Sevilla earlier this week.
