Finishing seventh despite being second from bottom after Hinrunde

Despite losing Robert Lewandowski to Bayern on a free transfer, Dortmund started the season with a bang, beating their arch rivals 2-0 to win the DFL-Supercup.

But what followed was a severely testing time for Borussia Dortmund. Ten losses in the first half of the season saw the Black and Yellows slip to 17th place in the Bundesliga table, two points from safety. But the second half of the season saw a change in fortune as Borussia Dortmund won nine of their final 17 games, including five wins in a row in February.

It was a Klopp inspired comeback, who despite announcing that he would be leaving the club at the end of the season, made sure that his last season was a memorable one. Dortmund ended up finishing seventh and qualified for the Europa League. Klopp also led Dortmund to the DFB-Pokal final, where they lost to Wolfsburg.
