VfL Bochum vs Borussia Dortmund: DFB-Pokal Team News
By Tushar Bahl
A place in the quarterfinals of the DFB-Pokal will be on the line as Borussia Dortmund and VfL Bochum square off on Wednesday.
Borussia Dortmund will go up against local rivals VfL Bochum in the round of 16 of the DFB-Pokal. The Black and Yellows have made an excellent start to 2023, and they will now be aiming to continue their progress by securing their place in the DFB-Pokal quarterfinals. But VfL Bochum are coming off a 5-2 win over Hoffenheim, and will be aiming to pull off an upset on Wednesday.
Winning the DFB-Pokal will no doubt be high on Borussia Dortmund’s list of goals for this season. And with a place in the quarterfinals on offer, they will likely field a full strength side against Bochum.
Although Edin Terzic could make a few changes to his starting XI and give some players a bit of rest ahead of the upcoming games against Werder Bremen and Chelsea.
Karim Adeyemi will miss Wednesday’s game after being sent off in the second round of the DFB-Pokal. Julien Duranville, Thomas Meunier and Mateu Morey are currently recovering from their injuries. Salih Özcan should return to the squad after missing Saturday’s game against Freiburg through suspension.
Bochum will be without the injured Michael Esser and Cristian Gamboa on Wednesday. Striker Moritz Broschinski, who joined Bochum from Borussia Dortmund II last month, scored on his Bundesliga debut off the bench against Hoffenheim. And he will be aiming to make a similar impact against his former employers.
