Borussia Dortmund will have to make do without the in-form Karim Adeyemi as they take on VfL Bochum in the DFB-Pokal round of 16 on Wednesday.

Borussia Dortmund will continue their DFB-Pokal journey on Wednesday evening by making a short trip to the Ruhrstadion to take on local rivals VfL Bochum. We could be in for a gripping cup tie between two teams coming off big wins in the Bundesliga. And Edin Terzic’s side will be aiming to make light work of Bochum to secure their passage to the quarterfinals.

The Black and Yellows will be without Karim Adeyemi on Wednesday. The forward was sent off in the last round of the DFB-Pokal, and will miss the Bochum game through suspension. Salih Özcan and Julian Ryerson are set to return to the squad. Terzic may look to rotate his side slightly, with one eye on the upcoming games against Werder Bremen and Chelsea.

Gregor Kobel has played in both of Borussia Dortmund’s DFB-Pokal games so far this season and is likely to start between the sticks once again on Wednesday. Julian Ryerson could start at right-back after recovering from his illness. Raphael Guerreiro impressed in the win over SC Freiburg on Saturday and should start at left-back.

We could see Mats Hummels come into the starting XI on Wednesday, with Niklas Süle potentially in line for a bit of rest. Nico Schlotterbeck could partner Hummels in defence, with his brother Keven set to feature for Bochum.

In midfield, we could see Salih Özcan return to the squad after missing out on Saturday through suspension. Emre Can and Julian Brandt could potentially be rested, with Jude Bellingham and Marco Reus rounding out the midfield three.

Bellingham has scored in both of Borussia Dortmund’s DFB-Pokal games so far this season. And he will be eager to keep that run going on Wednesday.

Gio Reyna and Jamie Bynoe-Gittens have primarily been used off the bench so far this season. And Wednesday’s game is the perfect opportunity for Edin Terzic to give them the chance to play them from the start.

Sebastien Haller should also be in line for a breather, and Youssoufa Moukoko should start up front for Borussia Dortmund against VfL Bochum. The 18 year old scored a stunning brace to lead BVB to victory when these two sides met in the Bundesliga in November.
