Andriy Yarmolenko

Yarmolenko joined Borussia Dortmund in 2017 for roughly €27 million and lasted a single season before being sold at a loss to West Ham. Yarmolenko joined the Black and Yellows with a lot of hype, after crushing the Ukrainian league for years. Many felt he had what it took to take the next step and deliver in a better league.

Yarmolenko did not have the desired effect, hardly making an impact at Borussia Dortmund. His quick feet only got him so far when the competition got tougher. His biggest goal came in the defeat to Tottenham in the Champions League, Yarmolenko scored a beautiful curler that beat Lloris in the top corner. Outside of that goal, he really didn’t contribute anything major. Yarmolenko became more renowned for wasting chances than finishing them by the time he left. The amount of scoring chances that were either wasted or missed because he was unable to complete a tap in or control the ball with his right foot were insanely frustrating.

He certainly wasn’t helped that his only season at Dortmund was one of their worst as far as style of play and structure are concerned. Regardless, he is one of the most expensive flops in recent history.
