Andre Schurrle

Andre Schurrle, formerly Borussia Dortmund’s record signing prior to the Mats Hummels signing, is one of Dortmund’s biggest flops, and not only because of his ridiculous price tag. Borussia Dortmund decided to buy Schurrle for €30 million after an impressive season at Wolfsburg following his failed spell at Chelsea.

Schurrle was initially bought to appease the then manager, Thomas Tuchel, who had success with him while at Mainz. But the 2014 World Cup winner never really got going at the Westfalenstadion, and managed only eight goals in two seasons with the club.

He was shipped off on loan to Premier League side Fulham last season. But things did not get better there either, as Schurrle was unable to prevent them from getting relegated.

Since this signing, Michael Zorc and co. have prevented the manager from having such a large say in transfers with this being the result of the one time they allowed it to happen. Schurrle is still technically on Dortmund’s roster, although he has been left out of training camp so far to find a new club.

His wages mean it will be quite difficult to get rid of him permanently this summer, and he is still under contract with Borussia Dortmund for two years. Schurrle is undoubtedly one of, if not the worst signings Borussia Dortmund have made in recent years.
