“We have a world-class goalkeeper”

Consistency from your goalkeeper is infectious. It inspires. It allows creative minds to take risks on the ball that can end up deciding the outcome of these illustrious European nights.

Gregor Kobel’s teammates know this is what they have to rely on. Emre Can, a player for whom simplicity is scarcely in mind, offered the most straightforward indicator of this confidence in an interview following the match. “We know we have a world-class goalkeeper.”

This was not Kobel’s first high quality performance in a big game for Borussia Dortmund this season either. The 25 year old also saved a penalty against Manchester City in the Champions League group stage, made several outstanding saves against Eintracht Frankfurt, and also came up big for his side against Bayer Leverkusen last month.

The second leg will see the level of tension escalate to newfound heights in what has quickly become a promising season for Borussia Dortmund. It will require a lot to keep Chelsea’s array of attacking talent quiet once again, but if the job is to be done, there is no keeper in the world that those in black and yellow would rather have spearhead the mission than Gregor Kobel.
