Borussia Dortmund have released a special edition black jersey inspired by the city’s coal and steel industries ahead of their Bundesliga clash against Hertha Berlin.

Borussia Dortmund will be wearing a special edition blackout kit on Sunday as they take on Hertha Berlin in the Bundesliga. The Black and Yellows released the new kit on Friday, and it takes inspiration from the coal and steel industries that dominated the Ruhr region in the 19th and 20th centuries.

This limited edition jersey designed by Puma has a black charcoal pattern and also features a map of the city of Dortmund. Both the BVB badge and the Bundesliga logo are also in black, and the neck of the shirt features the words “Borussia Verbindet” (Borussia unites). The player names and numbers on the back are designed to look like steel.

The newly launched kit also takes inspiration from the blackout kit released by the club in 2019 for the Bundesliga clash against Fortuna Düsseldorf. The shirt was released to commemorate the club’s 110th anniversary. That kit quickly became very popular among supporters and was sold out in less than three hours.

Borussia Dortmund have also announced that the shirts worn by the players on Sunday against Hertha BSC will be auctioned off and the proceeds will go towards supporting those who have been affected by the earthquake in Turkey and Syria.
