Borussia Dortmund to face RB Leipzig in the DFB-Pokal quarterfinals
The draw for the quarterfinals of the DFB-Pokal has been made and Borussia Dortmund will go up against RB Leipzig in the next round.
Borussia Dortmund will have to overcome the challenge of former coach Marco Rose and RB Leipzig if they want to qualify for the semifinals of the 2022/23 DFB-Pokal. The tie will take place on April 4-5, 2023 at the Red Bull Arena in Leipzig.
Borussia Dortmund, who last won the DFB-Pokal two seasons ago under Edin Terzic, saw off the challenge of VFL Bochum to qualify for the quarterfinals. Goals from Emre Can and Marco Reus helped BVB seal a hard fought win over the Bundesliga side earlier this month.
Their reward is a quarterfinal tie against RB Leipzig, who are the defending DFB-Pokal champions and eliminated TSG Hoffenheim in the round of 16.
RB Leipzig have enjoyed quite a renaissance under Marco Rose and currently find themselves in fifth place in the Bundesliga standings. They claimed a 3-0 win against Borussia Dortmund when the two sides last met in the Bundesliga in September. The Black and Yellows are also due to go up against RB Leipzig on March 3 in the Bundesliga.
We should be in for a blockbuster tie between two quality teams who will have winning the DFB-Pokal very high up on their list of priorities for this season.
Elsewhere, Bayern Munich will battle it out against SC Freiburg in the quarterfinals of the DFB-Pokal. While Eintracht Frankfurt will host Union Berlin, and VfB Stuttgart will be away to 2. Bundesliga side FC Nürnburg.
