Mahmoud Dahoud is determined to help Borussia Dortmund achieve their goals for this season even though he will be leaving the club in the summer.

It was revealed on Monday that Borussia Dortmund will not be extending Mahmoud Dahoud’s current contract, and the midfielder will be leaving the club as a free agent at the end of the season. Dahoud has now commented on his impending exit.

The 27 year old has said that he has thoroughly enjoyed his time at Borussia Dortmund, adding that he is fully focused on helping the team achieve their goals until the end of the season. In an interview with Sport1, Dahoud said:

"“The time at Dortmund has been wonderful and, above all, the fans have always supported me. There is therefore a special connection. I am very grateful for that. Until the summer, I’m fully focused on BVB and want to help the team achieve our goals. If the team needs me, I’m 100% there.”"

Mahmoud Dahoud joined Borussia Dortmund from Borussia Mönchengladbach in 2017, and has made a total of 137 appearances for the club. He enjoyed a renaissance at BVB under Edin Terzic in 2021, and was also a regular starter under Marco Rose before shoulder injuries forced him to spend significant time on the sidelines last year.

The BVB bosses’ decision to part ways with the Germany international certainly comes as a surprise. And it will be interesting to see what the future now holds for him.

Dahoud is looking forward to a new challenge in the summer, and is determined to continue to play at the highest level in one of Europe’s top leagues. According to Ruhr Nachrichten, SC Napoli, AC Milan, and Leicester City have already expressed an interest in signing him. And more clubs will likely join the race now that he is available on a free transfer.
