Oliver Kahn is expecting a hard fought title battle in the Bundesliga this season, with Borussia Dortmund and Bayern Munich level on points.

It is shaping up to be a fascinating season in the Bundesliga, with the race for the title expected to go down to the wire. Things are very tight at the top of the Bundesliga standings, with Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund only separated by goal difference at the moment.

Former Bayern Munich goalkeeper and current club CEO Oliver Kahn believes that Borussia Dortmund’s recent upturn in form means that they cannot afford any more slip-ups if they want to win the Bundesliga title this season.

"“Dortmund took over first place for 24 hours. It was important for us to stay at the top of the table. In previous years, we’ve always had a big lead, a certain cushion, now it’s completely different and everything is very tight. But maybe that’s not a bad thing. It’s good when you have to fight and keep up in all competitions.”“Dortmund have won every game [so far]. They are doing really well, we have been warned. We can’t afford any more slip-ups.”"

Borussia Dortmund began 2023 nine points behind Bayern Munich in the Bundesliga standings. But they have won all nine of their matches across all competitions since the turn of the year. That, combined with Bayern’s indifferent form, has helped the Black and Yellows launch a title challenge that seemed improbable going into the winter break.

Borussia Dortmund moved to the top of the Bundesliga standings on Saturday after claiming a hard fought 1-0 win over TSG Hoffenheim. But Bayern Munich responded brilliantly and reclaimed their lead at the top of the charts with a comfortable 3-0 win over third placed Union Berlin.
