Talking points from Borussia Dortmund’s 1-0 win over Hoffenheim
By Ali Boty
Borussia Dortmund’s away win against TSG Hoffenheim helped them stay tied at the top of the Bundesliga standings with Bayern Munich at the end of matchday 22.
Borussia Dortmund’s win at the PreZero Arena marked their ninth win of the calendar year, extending their unbeaten streak. Edin Terzic fielded a familiar and balanced team, with Sebastien Haller leading the charge. Emre Can continued to start in defensive midfield following his great run of form recently, and Jamie Bynoe-Gittens replaced the injured Karim Adeyemi in attack. Terzic decided to stick with the defensive pairing of Niklas Süle and Nico Schlotterbeck, which has been a key factor of the team’s recent positive run of form.
The Black and Yellows secured a 1-0 victory from a well delivered set-piece cross into the box by Marco Reus in the 43rd minute, which glanced off Julian Brandt’s back before finding its way past the Hoffenheim goalkeeper. This extended Brandt’s goal streak to four league games, helping him continue his excellent run of form.
This match demanded a display of character and focus, as an away game against an opposition starving for three points is never easy. After a nervy start, Borussia Dortmund were able to impose their style onto the opposition. The first half was a great display of how effective this squad is in transition and how patient they can be, as well. The second half, however, showcased a few issues, namely a slight loss of concentration and a lack of intent. Here are some of the talking points from the game.
