Report: Marco Reus will have to take significant pay cut to stay at Borussia Dortmund
Borussia Dortmund are ready to offer Marco Reus a new contract, but the midfielder will reportedly have to take a significant pay cut to stay at the club.
Marco Reus will be out of contract at the end of the season and there has been plenty of speculation surrounding his future in recent weeks. Borussia Dortmund sporting director Sebastian Kehl was coy when asked about the club captain’s future on Saturday. And BILD are now claiming that Reus will have to take a 50% pay cut to stay at BVB beyond the end of the season.
The tabloid claims that Borussia Dortmund are ready to offer Reus a new one-year contract, but only if he agrees to a significantly reduced salary. The 33 year old is currently the highest earner in the BVB squad, and receives an annual salary of 12 million euros. But the BVB bosses are offering him an annual salary of six million euros plus performance related bonuses.
WAZ reported earlier on Monday that Reus would like to stay at Borussia Dortmund beyond the end of the season. And the Germany international also said on a number of occasions last year that his desire is to stay with the Black and Yellows until the end of his playing career. BILD claim that a decision on Reus’ future is expected to be made by April at the latest.
Marco Reus, who is just 19 goals shy of becoming Borussia Dortmund’s all-time leading goalscorer, has made a total of 374 appearances since joining the club in 2012.
