Borussia Dortmund will be sweating on the fitness of Gregor Kobel ahead of their clash against Chelsea, after the goalkeeper missed the game against RB Leipzig due to muscular problems.

Gregor Kobel was forced to miss Borussia Dortmund’s Bundesliga clash against RB Leipzig despite being named in the starting XI. The shot-stopper experienced muscular problems during the pre-match warm-up and had to drop out of the line-up as a result.

Second choice goalkeeper Alexander Meyer stepped in at a moment’s notice and delivered a strong performance to help Borussia Dortmund claim a 2-1 win over RB Leipzig. And he may well be needed between the sticks again on Tuesday, as the Black and Yellows take on Chelsea in the second leg of their UEFA Champions League round of 16 tie.

Sebastian Kehl said after the game that they did not want to take any risks with Kobel’s fitness, and also praised Meyer for stepping up in the first-choice goalkeeper’s absence. The 25 year old will now undergo further tests on Saturday to determine the severity of the injury.

Gregor Kobel has been one of Borussia Dortmund’s top performers this season, and has been in inspired form since the turn of the year. So the hope will be that his injury is not a serious one.
