Borussia Dortmund suffered their first defeat of the calendar year on Tuesday evening, as Chelsea knocked them out of the UEFA Champions League.

Borussia Dortmund have been eliminated from the UEFA Champions League after Chelsea turned their round of 16 tie around in the second leg to win 2-1 on aggregate. It was a night to forget in London for the Black and Yellows, as they were handed a heartbreaking defeat.

Goals from Raheem Sterling and Kai Havertz either side of half-time helped Chelsea secure their place in the quarterfinals of the Champions League at Borussia Dortmund’s expense. Edin Terzic’s side looked overawed by the occasion, and not much went right for them over the course of the 90 minutes.

Chelsea deserved to go through, but were helped significantly by some controversial refereeing and the early injury suffered by Julian Brandt. Here are our player ratings for the Borussia Dortmund players from their 2-0 defeat to Chelsea.

Alexander Meyer (6/10)

Meyer made a few decent saves for Borussia Dortmund in the first half. But he also had some very sloppy and careless moments that could have been easily punished on another day. Kobel’s absence between the sticks meant that BVB looked vulnerable time and time again, even though Meyer did his best.
