Borussia Dortmund’s Marco Reus sidelined by “flu-like illness”
Borussia Dortmund captain Marco Reus could well be forced to miss this weekend’s clash against Schalke due to illness, per Sky Sport.
In what has been an unfortunate uptick in unavailable players for Borussia Dortmund as of their most recent games, club captain Marco Reus has been added to the list of players likely to miss game time due to injury or illness.
Earlier this week, Borussia Dortmund were forced to sub off Julian Brandt in the opening minutes of their clash with Chelsea in the Champions League, and now they may well be forced to weather the Revierderby without Reus due to a flu-like illness.
Marco Reus’ most recent omission means that Dortmund will take on Schalke with a much thinner squad; a not so easy task considering Schalke are one of the league’s in-form teams. This only adds to the fact that games against Schalke are always tense affairs, with previous encounters having had a direct effect on Die Schwarzgelben’s potential for winning silverware.
And yet, despite the trickiness of the task ahead, Borussia Dortmund’s clash with Schalke is indeed a must win game for the Black and Yellows. Reus has been in overall strong form for his side as of late, so his potential absence would be a big blow to the team.
Borussia Dortmund will be looking to get a result that will hopefully keep them on track in the Bundesliga. A strong showing will show that they have put the loss to Chelsea behind them and that the result has not derailed their momentum and level of focus on their objectives for the season. Reus, for his part, will hopefully feel better soon and put in a run of strong performances to help further those objectives.
