Marius Wolf (6/10)

Wolf made a number of dangerous forward runs down the right flank and set up two excellent chances either side of half time. He also came close to scoring in the first half, only to be denied by the goalkeeper. He did not have the best of times defensively, with Marius Bülter causing him a lot of problems.

Mats Hummels (6/10)

Hummels made his return to the starting XI and set up an excellent chance for Guerreiro in the 18th minute. He then sloppily presented Schalke with a golden chance in the 24th minute, but Rodrigo Zalazar fired his shot wide. The veteran defender made a number of vital defensive contributions for his side. But he was also beaten far too easily on a few occasions.

Nico Schlotterbeck (7/10)

Schlotterbeck continued his fine knack of scoring important goals by making it 1-0 with a fine finish from the edge of the box. He did have a few difficult moments defensively. But he also kept things under control for the most part, and looked dangerous whenever he ventured forward to help out in attack.

Julian Ryerson (5/10)

Ryerson made a strong start to the game but fell flat and looked vulnerable defensively as the game went on. He lost sight of Frey in the lead-up to Schalke’s first goal, and then failed to keep up with Karaman before the home side’s second.
