Thomas Meunier features for Borussia Dortmund U-23s in defeat to Dynamo Dresden
Thomas Meunier played for the Borussia Dortmund U-23s in the 3. Liga on Sunday, as they suffered a 3-1 defeat at home to Dynamo Dresden.
Thomas Meunier has lost his spot in the Borussia Dortmund starting XI in recent weeks, and is facing an uncertain future at the club. The right-back suited up for the Borussia Dortmund U-23s on Sunday to get some playing time under his belt as they faced Dynamo Dresden in the 3. Liga at the Signal Iduna Park. But he wasn’t able to prevent the struggling BVB II from suffering a 3-1 defeat.
Dynamo Dresden raced to a three goal lead within the opening 17 minutes, with Stefan Kutschke (x2) and Jakob Lemmer finding the back of the net. Justin Njinmah pulled a goal back for Jan Zimmermann’s side late on.
But the Borussia Dortmund U-23s weren’t able to launch a late comeback and suffered their 16th defeat of the season, leaving them in 17th place in the 3. Liga standings.
Despite the result, Thomas Meunier said after the game that it was the best feeling he has had in football in 2023.
The Belgian international has been limited to just one substitute appearance for Borussia Dortmund since the turn of the year, with Edin Terzic preferring to use Marius Wolf and Julian Ryerson at right-back. And it looks increasingly likely that his time at the club will come to an end in the summer.
FC Barcelona are rumoured to be interested in signing Meunier, who has less than 18 months left on his current contract with Borussia Dortmund.
