Borussia Dortmund returned to winning ways in emphatic fashion as they claimed a dominant 6-1 win over FC Köln in the Bundesliga.

Borussia Dortmund displayed their title credentials by earning a dominant 6-1 win over FC Köln on Saturday evening. Raphael Guerreiro, Sebastien Haller, Marco Reus, and Donyell Malen were all on target for the Black and Yellows, who moved to the top of the Bundesliga standings ahead of Bayern Munich’s trip to Bayer Leverkusen on Sunday.

The win helped Borussia Dortmund extend their unbeaten run in the Bundesliga to ten games, and they now have momentum back on side going into the international break.

Edin Terzic was forced into making a number of changes to his side ahead of kick-off, with several key players sidelined with injuries, illness, or suspension. But BVB did not let that prevent them from making an excellent start to the game.

Raphael Guerreiro opened the scoring in the 15th minute after some fine play from Donyell Malen down the right wing. The Portuguese international then turned provider for Sebastien Haller, who made it 2-0 less than two minutes later after some lovely play in the build-up.

Marco Reus then added a third with a fine finish from the edge of the box, before Donyell Malen joined in on the fun to make it 4-0 after 36 minutes.

Davie Selke pulled a goal back for Köln late in the first half, but Borussia Dortmund still went into the break with a three goal lead to their name.

It took some time for Borussia Dortmund to find their rhythm again in the second half. Köln came close to scoring on a couple of occasions. But Sebastien Haller put the game to bed in the 69th minute by firing home on the rebound after Mahmoud Dahoud hit the crossbar with his free-kick.

Marco Reus then put the icing on the cake just one minute later by scoring his 150th goal in the Bundesliga and securing a 6-1 win for his side. The BVB captain also moved up to second place in the club’s list of all-time top scorers during the game, with only Alfred Preißler now ahead of him.
