Marius Wolf has revealed his delight after earning his first call-up to the Germany squad for the upcoming international break.

Borussia Dortmund right-back Marius Wolf was one of the surprise names in the Germany squad for their friendly matches against Peru and Belgium. The 27 year old was called up by Hansi Flick after putting in impressive performances for the Black and Yellows since the turn of the year.

Wolf gave his reaction to his first Germany call-up after helping Borussia Dortmund earn a 6-1 win over FC Köln on Saturday evening. The versatile wide player also revealed that he did not have Hansi Flick’s phone number, so he did not know who was calling when he received the news of his call-up. In an interview with Sky Sport, Wolf said:

"“It has been one of the best weeks in my life. I’m absolutely thrilled about the nomination, and now a game like this – it couldn’t have gone any better. Hansi Flick called me and told me about the nomination. I didn’t have the number saved, so I didn’t know who it was. But it’s a really nice feeling.”"

Marius Wolf had to undergo heart surgery during the first half of the season after being diagnosed with atrial fibrillation and was forced to spend some time on the sidelines. But he has enjoyed a stunning turnaround since the turn of the year and has established himself as Borussia Dortmund’s first-choice right-back.

The former Eintracht Frankfurt player has performed consistently both in defence and attack, and the Germany call-up is a well deserved reward for his fine displays.
