Five positions Borussia Dortmund could look to bolster in the summer transfer window
Centre-back
Centre-back has been a position of need for Borussia Dortmund for a number of years now. But that issue was resoundingly resolved last summer with the acquisitions of Nico Schlotterbeck and Niklas Süle. Their recent form and partnership have increased fans’ optimism for the Bundesliga title race and the club’s future solidity at the back.
Besides the starters, Borussia Dortmund also have Mats Hummels and Soumaila Coulibaly in the first-team ranks.
However, Hummels is facing an uncertain future and Coulibaly has not made a single first-team appearance as of yet.
Signing a new back-up centre-back would give Edin Terzić more options in case of eventual casualties and provide the possibility of implementing a back-three system in particular scenarios. Hummels is no doubt getting closer to the end of his career, so this summer could be the perfect opportunity to pursue a long-term replacement.
