Bayern Munich have appointed Thomas Tuchel as their new head coach after parting ways with Julian Nagelsmann ahead of next week’s Der Klassiker.
Bayern Munich have made the shock decision to part ways with Julian Nagelsmann just eight days before their top of the table clash against Borussia Dortmund. The defending Bundesliga champions have decided to appoint Thomas Tuchel as his replacement, with the former BVB head coach receiving a contract until the end of the 2024/25 season.
The sacking of Nagelsmann comes less than a week after Bayern Munich fell to second place in the Bundesliga standings. The Bavarians let a nine point lead over Borussia Dortmund slip, and are now one point behind their title rivals with nine games left before the end of the season.
Bayern are still very much in the hunt to win three trophies this season. And they will be hoping that the arrival of Tuchel can give them a boost in their hopes of winning the treble.
Thomas Tuchel’s first game in charge of Bayern Munich will be against his former club Borussia Dortmund on April 1. The 49 year old, who was sacked by Chelsea in September, will train the Bayern squad for the first time on Monday.
Tuchel spent two years in charge of Borussia Dortmund, before being sacked in 2017. There were widespread rumours about his strained relationship with the BVB bosses at the time of his exit. And his arrival at Bayern Munich is sure to add another exciting element to what is already shaping up to be a thrilling Bundesliga title race.
