Sebastien Haller was on target for Ivory Coast in the AFCON qualifiers on Friday, while Gio Reyna made his return for the USMNT.
Three Borussia Dortmund players were in action for their respective national teams on Friday evening. Sebastien Haller marked his return to the Ivory Coast starting XI with a goal in their 3-1 win over Comoros.
Making his first appearance for Ivory Coast since June, the 28 year old doubled his side’s lead with a beautifully timed header into the bottom corner. Haller was then given a bit of rest as he was taken off in the 71st minute.
Gio Reyna made his first appearance for the United States since the World Cup controversy surrounding him on Friday, as he helped them beat Grenada 7-1 in the Concacaf Nations League.
The Borussia Dortmund midfielder was named in the starting XI by interim head coach Anthony Hudson. He played in midfield and was subbed off in the 64th minute. FC Augsburg striker Ricardo Pepi scored a brace for the USMNT.
Donyell Malen came off the bench but wasn’t able to prevent the Netherlands from suffering a 4-0 defeat to France in their opening Euro 2024 qualifier. A brace from Kylian Mbappe inspired the 2018 FIFA World Cup winners to a dominant win.
Thomas Meunier was an unused substitute for Belgium as they began their Euro 2024 qualifying campaign with a 3-0 win over Sweden. Romelu Lukaku scored all three goals, as former RB Leipzig and Schalke head coach Domenico Tedesco enjoyed a comfortable win in his first game in charge of Belgium.
