Thomas Tuchel is looking forward to going up against former club Borussia Dortmund in his first game in charge of Bayern Munich.
Bayern Munich made the stunning decision to part ways with Julian Nagelsmann on Friday evening. The defending Bundesliga champions have appointed Thomas Tuchel as their new head coach, with the former Borussia Dortmund trainer joining his new club on a contract until the end of the 2024/25 season.
Tuchel spoke for the first time since taking charge at Bayern Munich on Saturday, and commented on the challenge of going up against Borussia Dortmund in their top of the table clash next weekend. During his presentation press conference, the 49 year old said:
"“For me, the reunion (with BVB) is not a big deal, there are always going to be people who were once with one club or the other. What’s important is the sporting aspect.”“It’s the biggest game in German football. It has taken on a new explosive dimension due to our deficit in the table and BVB’s extraordinary run. The challenge couldn’t be greater. But I’m looking forward to it”"
Borussia Dortmund will go into the game with a one point lead over Bayern Munich in the Bundesliga standings with nine games to go before the end of the season. And next weekend’s Der Klassiker is all set to play a massive role in deciding the outcome of this season’s Bundesliga title race.
Thomas Tuchel also outlined his desire to win the treble with Bayern Munich this season. The Bavarians are in the running to win the Bundesliga, UEFA Champions League, and DFB-Pokal this season, and the former BVB, PSG, and Chelsea head coach is confident that they can compete on all three fronts.
Tuchel will train the Bayern Munich players for the first time on Monday, and his first game in charge of his new club will be against Borussia Dortmund on April 1.
