The week that could make or break Borussia Dortmund’s season
Away vs. Bayern Munich – (Bundesliga, April 1)
The next Der Klassiker will be the most important match in Borussia Dortmund’s recent history, which is not an exaggeration by any means. Facing the Bavarians at their domains is always difficult, especially considering that BVB have struggled to win against their rivals for a long time.
Borussia Dortmund’s last win against Bayern in the Bundesliga came in 2018 when Paco Álcacer scored the winner to give secure a stunning 3-2 victory. Since then, BVB have been on the losing side against their rivals in the Bundesliga, with the 2-2 draw from earlier this season being the only exception.
The 2-2 draw at home tasted very much like a victory with Modeste’s last-gasp goal resulting in incredible scenes of jubilation. The Frenchman became BVB’s unlikely hero, with his header securing a come from behind 2-2 draw.
Modeste’s goal is one no Borussia Dortmund fan will forget any time soon. But the focus now turns to this weekend’s Der Klassiker in Munich, where BVB have found it almost impossible to win in recent games.
With just eight games left in the Bundesliga season after this weekend’s clash between Borussia Dortmund and Bayern Munich, the team that comes out on top will become the favourite to win the Bundesliga title. Add to that the fact that former BVB head coach Thomas Tuchel will be in the Bayern Munich dugout this weekend, and this game has all the ingredients to be a very special one.
