The week that could make or break Borussia Dortmund’s season
Away vs. Red Bull Leipzig – (DFB Pokal, April 5)
Soon after what will no doubt be a gruelling battle in Munich, Borussia Dortmund will have to travel to Leipzig to face the Red Bulls in the DFB Pokal quarter-finals. It will be the third meeting between these two clubs this season
Borussia Dortmund were heavily beaten on their last visit to Leipzig, but did gain a measure of revenge by claiming a 2-1 win at home when the sides met last month.
Edin Terzić’s side just about got the job done in that game, with Alexander Meyer and Nico Schlotterbeck making crucial last-ditch interception to prevent Leipzig from clawing their way back into the game. After a dominant first half, Dortmund were forced to suffer way more than they needed to.
RB Leipzig are the defending DFB-Pokal champions and they will no doubt make things very difficult for Borussia Dortmund in this game. The form book goes out of the window in cup matches, and Marco Rose’s side will be desperate to come out on top.
The DFB-Pokal is already high on BVB’s list of priorities for this season, and its importance would increase even further if Bayern come out on top in this weekend’s Der Klassiker.
RB Leipzig suffered two bruising defeats just before the international break, including a 7-0 defeat to Manchester City in the Champions League. But they will no doubt be up for the fight, and we could be in for a fascinating battle between two quality teams in the DFB-Pokal quarterfinals.
