Hans-Joachim Watzke: We will travel to Bayern Munich with a lot of confidence

Hans-Joachim Watzke feels that Borussia Dortmund have confidence on their side heading into this weekend’s top of the table clash against Bayern Munich.
With the international break almost over, the focus will soon switch to this weekend’s massive Bundesliga clash between Borussia Dortmund and Bayern Munich. The Bundesliga league leaders will head to Bavaria with the hopes of getting their first win at the Allianz Arena since 2017.
Hans-Joachim Watzke believes that the Black and Yellows will go into the game full of confidence. But the BVB CEO also knows that the Bundesliga title race will not be decided on Saturday. In an interview with the Süddeutsche Zeitung, Watzke said:
"“Uli (Hoeneß) once said, “The trend is your friend.” We’ve gained ten points on Bayern in recent months, so our team can travel to Munich with a lot of confidence for the first time in a long time. The nice thing is that the championship will not be decided this Saturday, no matter the outcome. We only have three away games after that, and five home games. It will be tight either way.”"
Many had written off Borussia Dortmund as potential title challengers going into the winter break, as they were nine points behind Bayern Munich in the Bundesliga standings. But Edin Terzic’s side have enjoyed a stunning turnaround since the turn of the year and now hold a one point lead over Bayern heading into this weekend’s Der Klassiker.
There will be eight more matchdays left in the Bundesliga after this weekend. And Borussia Dortmund will feel that if they manage to avoid defeat on Saturday, they will have a strong chance of finally ending Bayern Munich’s dominance and winning the Bundesliga title this season.
But as BVB have found out on so many occasions in recent seasons, beating Bayern will not be easy. And we are all set for a massive battle between the two teams this weekend.
