Can Marius Wolf reduce Hansi Flick’s right-back headache?

Marius Wolf’s resurgence in BVB colours caught the eyes of Hansi Flick, who had been struggling to fill up a right-back-shaped hole in the Germany squad. Wolf was selected in the squad to face Peru and Belgium in a couple of international friendlies and managed to earn his first senior cap for the Germany national team.

Barring a few shaky minutes on his debut against Peru, Wolf was dominant and reliable, crushing the opposing team’s counterattacks and delivering a peach of a cross for Niclas Füllkrug’s second goal. Adding cherry to the cake was his communication and chemistry with Kai Havertz and how they orchestrated attacks down the right wing for Germany.

Marius Wolf probably could have done more to prevent the first goal that Germany conceded against Belgium, but this is just the start of a long restructuring process for the national team heading into the Euros, and the first steps have been taken.
