Borussia Dortmund’s Julian Brandt expected to extend current contract

Borussia Dortmund and Germany midfielder Julian Brandt seem to be close to agreeing on a contract extension, per Sky Sport’s Sven Wsterschulze.

In the advent of Borussia Dortmund’s performance against Bayern Munich this past weekend, fans will be pleased to get some good news to help assuage the sting of defeat. The good news: Germany international Julian Brandt looks like he’ll be signing a contract extension with the club. Brandt’s performances this season have been his best in a black and yellow by a large margin. His 9 goals and 5 assists have inevitably attracted foreign interest in the player, which has been an instrumental force for the club all season long.

With the player’s current contract is set to expire in 2024, it is imperative that the club works swiftly to get the deal over the line. There is allegedly a list of clubs interested in the the German international’s services including the likes of Arsenal, Liverpool, Manchester City and Newcastle. While it’s hard to gauge just how strong the interest is, it is definitely in the club’s interest to convince Brandt of their project and extend his current deal.

It remains to be seen when we will get official confirmation of the contract extension, but the news is welcome nonetheless. If Brandt can maintain his form for the rest of the season and into next year, he can certainly help Dortmund achieve great things moving forward. His influence on the midfield cannot be highlighted enough. His overall turnaround from being a player known for losing possession and lackluster displays to maintaining a consistent run of form and playing a critical role in the club’s success this season deserves rewarding and recognition.
