Borussia Dortmund are set to extend the contract of Marco Reus, with the club captain expected to put pen to paper on a one-year contract.

The speculation surrounding Marco Reus’ future at Borussia Dortmund is about to come to an end. BILD are claiming that talks over a contract extension for the attacking midfielder are in their final stages. The tabloid adds that Reus will sign a one-year contract with the Black and Yellows, and the news could be made official in the coming week.

Reus has stated on a number of occasions that he would like to stay at Borussia Dortmund until the end of his playing career. Talks have been ongoing for a while, and it looks like a solution has now finally been found.

According to BILD, Reus will have to take a pay cut to extend his contract with BVB. The 33 year old is currently the club’s top earner, but will earn an annual salary of seven million euros next season in the best-case scenario.

Marco Reus, who joined Borussia Dortmund from Borussia Mönchengladbach in 2012, became the club’s second highest goalscorer earlier this season. The Germany international has made a total of 380 appearances for BVB, and has 161 goals to his name.

His impending contract extension will give him the opportunity to chase Alfred Preißler’s record and become the club’s leading scorer of all time.
